During the events of Sesame Street Forever, Glynn took over the Ffarquhar branch line, so Thomas decided to get repainted to his old livery and go back to Brighton.

Sir Topham Hatt: Thomas, where are you going?
Thomas: Leaving Sodor. It looks like Glynn took over my branch line today, so I'm going to miss all my favorite places and friends.
Sir Topham Hatt: Oh, I get it. You're going on another big world adventure. *notices Thomas puffing away* Thomas? THOMAS!!!!
Thomas has already picked up Annie and Clarabel and is now puffing through the Main Line. He arrived at Vicarstown and stopped at the place where he usually told the Life lessons.
Thomas: I have one more life lesson to give to my friends out there. Goodbye, North Western Railway. For good.
Clarabel: Come on Thomas.
Annie: It's time to go.
Thomas: Goodbye, life as I know it.
Thomas sadly crossed the Vicarstown Bridge into the Mainland.

But the next morning, when the Steam Team wakes up, they will notice that Thomas is gone again. Everyone on Sodor goes on another search for him.
